Stars and endless nighttime sky go by
My window
As I dream I watch them fly

Darkness
Empty
Cold as ice
And stretching
Somewhere into
The unknown
My destination
Still unsure

A blank

Is there really somewhere at
The other end of this cold, dark abyss
For me to reach?
All the dark out there
Reflecting the fear
Yawning like a void within me

Only when I raise my eyes I realize
That the dark is broken by points of light
Blinking starlight sent from across heavens
Fifty thousand years ago

But their light is right here shining so serenely
As though their travels make them glad
Even if, like me, they will never see
Their point of origin again

Even as their journeys take them far from home now
Their tales aren’t over yet at all
Because here I am, taking comfort in
Sweet starlight from centuries ago
