Autumn leaves us barren, bony trees
A sightly treat for someone like me
Ghosts linger in red and orange shade
The perfect time for hauntings and play

“Trick or treat”—a common phrase to some
And on this night, their fun has begun
Witches, ghouls, and zombies without heads
Don’t want the tricks—they want the treats instead

There’s no need to stock up on candy
‘Cause thrilling tricks are what they’ll receive
Finally, the day has come for me
To show the world what magic can be

The sun sets and out the costumes come
It’s time for me to have my own fun
The first knock echoes from my front door
I open up, but they’re quickly bored

Oh, young children, won’t you come see?
I swear these stunts will fill you with glee
Why are you all glaring at me?
Aren’t my tricks the perfect treat?

Magic tricks just aren’t enough
To please this sugar-driven crowd
I wish I could cast a spell
To turn this horrid night around

What’s the point of “trick-or-treat”
When all they want is the candy?
Lord, I think these angry kids
Are really gonna make me scream

Halloween—a horrid night to some
To those who just want to have some fun
Lock my door, and turn off the porch light
And pray this angry mob goes away

Could I just have one kid like the tricks
I planned for them? And smile in thanks
I don’t want to please each kid I meet
I just want one, then I’ll be happy

Oh, these children refuse to see
There’s more to life than piles of sweets
On this Halloween, I have seen
That’s all those kids will ever be!

My magic is not enough
To please such an ungrateful crowd
I wish I could cast a spell
To spread a cheer throughout the crowd

I thought trick-or-treat was a statement
But, it’s a test question
Now, I know it’s obvious
I’ve failed my mission, the end

Suddenly, I hear a squeal
From the very back of the crowd
One girl wears a smile
Fit to turn this horrid night around

“Show me more tricks, please, miss”
The happy little witch girl cries
So, I wave my magic wand
And cast spells ‘til the sun arrives
